Liverpool are favourites to secure the services of Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Mario Gotze, according to German Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft
Mario Gotze may have become the golden boy of football after scoring the winning goal to help the Germany national team lift the 2014 World Cup title but things have not been quite so rosy for the attacking midfielder at club level.
Gotze has struggled to cement a place as a regular in the Bayern first team over the last two seasons and the 23-year old seems to have fallen out of favour with manager Pep Guardiola in recent times.
Gotze was completely overlooked during Bayern’s 1-0 victory over FC Koln during the weekend despite Guardiola making a host of changes to his starting lineup.
Gotze set for Liverpool move
Following the game, the Spanish manager was bullish regarding his decision and said, “It was my decision and it was the best solution for Bayern Munich. If we win, I’ve made the right call.”
The latest snub has been seen as the last straw in Gotze’s career at Bayern and now the 23-year old has decided that he will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season, even though Guardiola is already departing the club.
A host of clubs will surely be falling over each other in order to sign Gotze but according to German Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft, the former Borussia Dortmund star is likely to end up at Premier League side Liverpool.
Gotze enjoyed a very good relationship with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp from their time together at the Signal Iduna Park and it is believed that the German international is keen on a reunion with his mentor at Anfield at the end of the season.
