Ashley Cole wants to stay at Chelsea for at least another year.
The 32-yearols defender is out of contract next year and his future has been at the centre of intense speculation.
He is widely regarded as the best left back in the world and would be snapped up by clubs in England or abroad – despite his age.
He signed a new deal in January after making a dramatic U-turn on his Chelsea career after wanting to quit. But with the England star’s deal expiring at the end of the year, he now plans on ending his career at the club.
He said: “I have had a great time here, a great career here and, of course, I’d love to stay if they still want me. I signed an extension at the start of the year and so have this year left.
“However, that will be up at the end of the season. I hope to stay for longer. There is going to be a time when they will have to replace me.
“I have Ryan Bertrand in my place and one day I’m going to want to watch him play, so the time will come when I will finish my career.”
Cole has courted controversy both on and off the field during his career. He has been involved in a series of high profile relationships and got divorced to Cheryl Cole because of his playboy ways.
And he angered many fans at Arsenal when he said he nearly crashed his car after being told they would “only” pay him £50,000 a week.
Yet his his widely regarded on the pitch and will see his career out with the Blues.
