Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes that new signing Romelu Lukaku should not be fazed by the recent criticism he has faced from the fans.
Lukaku joined Manchester United earlier this season from Everton and started hitting the goals on a consistent basis at Old Trafford almost immediately.
However, the big Belgian has struggled to score goals in recent weeks and this has left many fans frustrated – with many criticizing the Belgian over his performances as well as lack of cutting edge in attack.
Supporters were especially displeased with Lukaku’s failings against Manchester City in the most recent Manchester derby and this criticism seems to have negatively affected the Belgian international.
Lukaku’s unhappiness has been highlighted by the striker’s decision to not celebrate his goals in the fixtures succeeding the Manchester derby, with some regarding this action little disrespectful towards the fans.
Now Dwight Yorke has gone on to speak about Lukaku and urged him to start celebrating once again by saying, “He has scored 15 goals and the season is not even halfway yet. That it is a good return for the money they spent.
“He has got the two goals in the last two games. That should give him a little bit more confidence. He has to enjoy what he is doing, take up the challenge, and forget what people say and write about him.
“You have got to be bigger than that. You are playing for the biggest football club in the country and he has to continue to go out and show what a quality player he is, because I’m a huge fan.”
