EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle United FC target Victor Valdes as a replacement for Tim Krul

Newcastle United are eyeing a shock swoop for out of favour Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes to replace the injured Tim Krul

It is clear to see that Newcastle United are currently going through a terrible start to the season and just when it seemed like things could not get any worse, the Magpies were dealt with a huge blow after goalkeeper Tim Krul was ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury sustained during international duty with the Netherlands national team.

Krul has undoubtedly been one of the most integral parts of the Newcastle United side and his loss could prove to be fatal in the North East side’s battle against relegation, even though there is a lot of time to go before the end of the season.

Krul out injured for the rest of the season

In addition to Krul, Newcastle are also without the services of second choice goalkeeper Karl Darlow and manager Steve McClaren only has Rob Elliot as his first team goalkeeping option at the moment.

As a result, it is widely expected that McClaren will be dipping into the transfer market to reinforce his options between the sticks and now Winner Sports can exclusively reveal that the 54-year old is plotting a shock move for Manchester United’s Victor Valdes.

Valdes has been resigned to leaving United after falling out with manager Louis van Gaal and to make matters worse, it was recently reported that the Dutchman has barred the 33-year old to even train with the Under-21’s.

Valdes a shock target for Newcastle United

Therefore it goes without saying that United will look to dispense with the services of Valdes upon the reopening of the January transfer window and now Newcastle have emerged as shock candidates to sign the Spaniard.

It remains to be seen whether Valdes would be open to joining Newcastle but with the goalkeeper having very few options available to him at the moment, the potential move would probably not be the worst thing in the world for the former Barcelona star.
