Ipswich Town FC leading the race to sign Chuks Aneke

Promotion chasing Ipswich Town are winning the race to secure the services of Zulte Waregem midfielder Chuks Aneke, according to reports

Ipswich Town are currently occupying 8th place in the Championship but with things so closely packed in the standings, the Tractor Boys most certainly stand a good chance of earning a place in one of the playoff places by the end of the campaign.

Surprisingly, Ipswich have not been too active in the transfer market in January to boost their promotion chances but it is expected that manager Mick McCarthy will be looking to push through a couple of deals during the final few days of the transfer window.

Bringing in a new midfielder is on the agenda for McCarthy and it was reported recently that the Ipswich boss was eyeing a swoop for Zulte Waregem star Chuks Aneke.

Aneke returning to England with Ipswich?

Aneke earned a reputation as a talented goalscoring midfielder during his loan spells with Crewe Alexandra over the past few seasons and the midfielder has further enhanced his stock following his permanent move from Arsenal to Belgian side Zulte.

Now Aneke is being linked with a move back to England and the duo of Ipswich and Bristol City were said to be involved in the race to sign the 22-year old.

With Bristol having recently sign Lee Tomlin though, they are no longer pursuing Aneke and it has paved the way for Ipswich to make a move for the midfielder. It is believed that Zulte are open to parting with Aneke as they look to raise funds  and Ipswich now stand a great chance of signing the Englishman.
