Premier League champions Leicester City are considering a surprise swoop for Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko, according to reports.
Leicester City have enjoyed a remarkable turnaround ever since Craig Shakespeare took over from Claudio Ranieri and it does look like relegation is no longer a worry for the Foxes.
Nonetheless, Leicester will need to strengthen their squad over the upcoming summer in order to avoid another turbulent campaign and the defending Premier League champions are already said to be looking at options to improve their squad.
Now in reports emerging out of Denmark, claims have been made that Leicester are currently eyeing up a swoop for Erik Sviatchenko.
Sviatchenko is currently plying his trade for Scottish side Celtic and although the 25-year-old has made 38 appearances this season, he surprisingly expressed his unhappiness at being the ‘third choice’ centre back at Parkhead.
Sviatchenko wanted by Leicester City
Speaking to Danish news outlet BT, Sviatchenko had said, “Since January, I have not figured as much as I’d hoped. It is the first time in my career I have sat on the bench and not been selected, although in fact I’m fit.
“It is not ideal and it is a situation I must deal with. If Brendan Rodgers has decided that I am third choice, I will do everything to prove that I must be one of the two in the middle.
“It is obviously a tiresome situation, especially when I’ve had such a big role until July and then not be as dominant as I’d expected. Right now it’s frustrating.”
It is clear to see that Sviatchenko is currently unhappy at Celtic and the Denmark international could well consider a move to Leicester if an offer were to be forthcoming.
