Manchester City have beaten Barcelona to the signing of promising defender Aymeric Laporte, according to reports emerging out of Spain
Pep Guardiola will be arriving at Manchester City next season and the high profile Spaniard is expected to attract a host of world class names to the Etihad Stadium as well.
Even before Guardiola has begun his assignment at City, a host of players have already started being linked with a move to the Premier League giants and it was recently claimed that Aymeric Laporte is one of the players whom the 45-year old wants to bring in at the Etihad next season.
Laporte is considered as one of the most promising young defenders around in Europe after bursting into the scene for Athletic Bilbao back in 2012 and it is widely expected that the Frenchman will be earning a big money move to one of the elite clubs this summer.
Laporte set for City move
However, Guardiola had been touted to face competition in his hopes of bringing Laporte to City as even his former side Barcelona are said to be very keen on landing the services of the 21-year old.
Now in a further development to the Laporte story, it has been claimed that Manchester City have managed to stave off competition from Barcelona for the services of the young defender.
Spanish publication Sport claim that City had already pursued Laporte just days after it was announced that Guardiola would be joining as manager and the Premier League giants are now on the verge of securing the services of the talented youngster.
