Man Utd FC skipper could leave after agent rules out extension

Nemanja Vidic is a name that has been synonymous with Manchester United since the influential defender’s arrival to Old Trafford in 2006. Vidic’s eight-year stay at the club has been trophy-laden and the Serbian will certainly go down in history as one of the best defenders to have graced the Premier League.

However, Vidic has not been able to reproduce his best form ever since suffering a horrific knee injury in late 2011, with the defender missing a large portion of United’s matches in the last couple of seasons due to recurrence of the knee problem.

United are currently going through a transitional period under new manager David Moyes and the Scotsman is looking to usher in a new era at the club by giving younger players a chance to shine which could eventually see Vidic being slowly phased out of the first team .

Although currently considered an indispensable part of the team, Vidic’s future has been put in doubt at Old Trafford recently and with the defender entering the final six months of his contract at the club, there have been rumors flying around that he could well be on his way out of Manchester with Italian side Napoli showing interest.

Now, Vidic’s agent Silvano Martina has added fuel to the fire that the defender could leave Manchester United by saying that his client is in no rush to sign an extension with the club and added that if the defender were to leave United, he would not have any problems finding a new club citing the interest from Napoli.

Martina was speaking to Radio Crc and said, “Vidic, given his contract situation, has several teams looking at him. Napoli? At the moment there has been no contact. Thanks to the management of [President] De Laurentiis and [sporting director] Bigon, they are one of the best clubs in Europe.

“Vidic is a very good player and will have no trouble finding a new club. For the time being we are remaining calm. However, at the moment, I would rule out an extension with Manchester United.”

Vidic has made over 250 appearances in a United shirt and has won 10 major honours with the club, lifting the Premier League title on 5 occasions.
