Speaking to the The East Anglian Daily Times, Preston North End legend Mark Lawrenson has stated that Ipswich Town are not signing a prolific striker in Joe Garner.
Joe Garner did not enjoy the best of spells following his £1.8million move from Preston to Rangers last summer and it is very likely that the 29-year-old is set for an exit from the Ibrox Stadium, with Ipswich Town keen on his services.
Reports have claimed that Ipswich are set to agree a £1million deal to secure the services of Garner but ahead of the move, Preston legend Mark Lawrenson has delivered a warning to the Tractor Boys regarding the striker.
Lawrenson stated that although Garner is a very hard working player, he does not score enough goals and hinted that Ipswich’s investment may not pay dividends at the end.
He told The East Anglian Daily Times, “I’ve seen him play so many times for Preston, with them being my club.
“I’ll tell you now, he’ll be one of the hardest working centre-forwards that Ipswich Town fans have seen in the club’s entire history. He’s a nuisance, an absolute nuisance for centre defenders – they absolutely hate playing against him.
“The only problem with Joe is that he doesn’t score enough goals. Don’t get me wrong, he scored a lot of goals in League One and will get goals in the Championship, but he’s not prolific.”
