Marten De Roon look set to join Atalanta for a reported fee of £15 million from Middlesbrough, according to Sky Sports.
Following their relegation last season, Middlesbrough have already lost the likes of Gaston Ramirez and Viktor Fischer to Sampdoria and Mainz respectively and they now look set to lose another player this summer, as the Italian side are close to signing the Dutch midfielder.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a relatively good season in the Premier League last season, finishing as the joint second top scorer for the relegated team with 4 goals to his name. Such good form saw him make his Netherlands debut during his time at the Riverside.
De Roon will now join the likes of Ramirez and Fischer as the recent departures from Middlesbrough, should he leave the club.
Boro have not wasted time in signing possible replacements for their departed stars, having spent to about £50 millions in various incomings.
The Championship side are still linked with the likes of Lewis Baker and Ryan Kent as they look to further strengthen their squad.
Despite their season opener defeat to Wolves, Middlesbrough will look to perform impressively this term and return back to the Premier League as soon as possible.
