Newcastle United FC plotting Bas Dost move

Newcastle United have made quite a splash in the transfer market this summer by bringing in no less than nine new players to the club. But, the Magpies are still not done with their spending as of yet this summer and now reports have emerged claiming that Dutch striker Bas Dost is being courted by manager Alan Pardew.

Newcastle have already recruited three new strikers this summer in the form of Ayoze Perez, Facundo Ferreyra and Emmanuel Rivière but with the loss of Shola Ameobi and Loic Remy this summer allied with the long term injury suffered by Papiss Cisse, Pardew is said to be looking to further bolster his attacking lineup.

As a result, Bas Dost’s name has cropped up as a potential target for Newcastle and it is believed that the Magpies will be tabling a bid for the Dutchman in the coming days.

Dost was one of the most prolific goalscorers in the Dutch Eredivisie with SC Heerenveen but has not quite been able to replicate the similar form for VfL Wolfsburg back in 2012.

Now with Wolfsburg having signed Nicklas Bendtner recently, it is believed that the German side are looking to offload Dost before the transfer window slams shut and are open to listening to offers for the striker.

However, with Wolfsburg having splashed around £7million to secure the services of Dost less than two years ago, they will certainly be looking to recoup a large portion of the amount they paid for the 25-year old and it remains to be seen whether Newcastle United will be ready to match the German side’s valuation of the striker.

An imposing frontman at 6’4, Dost is a big physical presence but is surprisingly decent on the ball at his feet as well and could prove to be a good addition to the ranks at St. James’ Park if he does indeed arrive to Newcastle.
