Wantaway Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback has been linked with a return to his former club Sunderland FC in the January transfer window, according to reports.
Colback joined Newcastle from arch rivals Sunderland in 2014 and since then, he has gone on to feature in around 100 games for the Magpies – playing an instrumental role in helping the Magpies securing promotion from the Championship last season.
Since Newcastle United’s return to the Premier League this season though, Colback has not featured for the Magpies at all and it looks like the 28-year-old is on his way out of the club in January.
Manager Rafa Benitez has made it clear that there is no place in the first team for the former Sunderland midfielder and as a result, Colback is looking for a new club to ply his trade for.
Due to the lack of first team football coming Colback’s way, there seems to be very little interest in the 28-year-old and according to reports, the only suitors seems to be his former club Sunderland.
Since Colback left Sunderland for arch rivals Newcastle under such acrimonious circumstances, one can be sure that he will not receive a warm welcome if indeed he returns to the Stadium of Light.
