Poyet: Draw a fair result

Sunderland continued on their road to recovery after claiming a hard earned point against Everton with a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light today.

The Black Cats seemed liked they were on their way to claiming their second victory on the bounce after a fine Sebastian Larsson free kick had handed them the lead in the second half.

Seb Larsson had handed Sunderland the lead

However, a clumsy challenge by Connor Wickham on Seamus Coleman in the 76th minute handed Everton a penalty and a way back into the game.

At the end, Sunderland were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and had to settle for a point.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet was left lamenting missed opportunities but admitted that the draw was probably the fair result as even Everton created chances of their own.

Poyet accepts that point was a good result

Following the game, Poyet said, “I think you need to take the point when you try and analyse football in a fair way.

“The opposition were very good on the ball and they controlled the tempo of the game so you need to adapt and be good when you get the ball.

“I think we created enough to win it but Everton also had their chances so overall I think it was one of them games – it was so tight that it could go either way so a draw was alright for everybody.”

The point means that Sunderland move up to 14th position in the Premier League table with 12 points from 11 matches.
