Dutch striker Robin van Persie could make his return in the Capital One Cup against Liverpool on Wednesday. The striker missed the 4-1 defeat to the hands of Manchester City due to a groin injury.
However, David Moyes has allayed fears that the striker will be missing for a long time saying that the injury is not a serious one. He also added that the van Persie could be fit in time for the clash against Liverpool in midweek.
Moyes told Sky Sports, “We thought Robin would be okay. We gave him every chance. It’s nothing serious. He could be involved on Wednesday or next weekend. I don’t think it is going to be long. He just felt something in his groin in training. We didn’t want to aggravate it.”
Van Persie’s quick return will be welcome news for Manchester United fans after the Red Devils suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of rivals Manchester City yesterday. The Red Devils were outplayed in the all areas of the pitch and looked short of ideas in attack without the Dutchman in their lineup.
United will be desperate to bounce back from the defeat to City against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.
