Premier League high flyers Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a swoop for Aston Villa flop Jordan Veretout, according to reports from French publication Evect.

Veretout joined Aston Villa from Nantes at the start of last season as one of the most promising young midfield players in France and it was expected that he would do a good job in the Premier League for Villa as well.

Unfortunately though, Veretout was never able to prove his true worth to the Villa supporters and having failed to make much of a contribution to the club’s unsuccessful battle against relegation from the Premier League, the 23-year-old returned back to France with Saint-Etienne on loan over the summer.

Veretout wanted by Tottenham

During his time in France this season, the midfielder has once again managed to find his best form and has been crucial to helping Saint-Etienne enjoy a very good campaign in the French Ligue 1 so far.

With Veretout looking certain to be leaving Aston Villa on a permanent basis next season, a number of clubs including Saint-Etienne are currently looking at the possibility of signing the ex-Nantes star and now according to shock reports from French publication Evect, even Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a move for the former France Under-21 international.

According to the reports, Tottenham scouts were present during Saint-Etienne’s Europa League encounter against Manchester United on Wednesday night to monitor Veretout and now the North London side are allegedly mulling over a potential move for the Villa flop.
