Undoubtedly the best player in the planet at the moment, Lionel Messi is the face of world football. The diminutive genius has been simply sensational for Barcelona over the last couple of years and his goalscoring records are ridiculously impressive.

At 26, Messi has won everything there is to win at club level and it is just frightening to think what the Argentine superstar can go on to achieve in his career.

However, one criticism labeled at Messi’s direction is the fact that he has not been able to replicate his brilliant form at club level for his national team, with his record with Argentina at major tournaments very disappointing.

Since being appointed captain though, Messi seems to have shouldered the responsibility of his side and has been producing a couple of wonderful performances. The Barcelona star is currently at the peak of his powers and there will be no excuses if he were to fail at the World Cup this time around.

Messi has inevitably been compared to Argentina hero Diego Maradona and if he is able to guide the Albiceleste to success in Brazil, the 26-year old will cement a hero status comparable to his childhood idol.

It just seems unfair that Argentina possess both the attacking talents of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero. Everyone knows how good Messi is but in Sergio Aguero, Argentina possess another brilliant striker, who can win matches for his side on his own.

The 25-year old enjoyed a wonderful campaign for Manchester City this season despite being injured for the majority of the campaign, where his goals were one of the main reasons for the Citizens being crowned Champions.

A lot of burden has been placed on the shoulders of Messi to perform at the World Cup, but even if the Barcelona star fails to deliver, Argentina fans can be reassured by the fact that Aguero is more than capable of firing their side to victory.

Argentina certainly possess some brilliant strikers in Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain but the man tasked with creating chances for their illustrious frontmen is Angel Di Maria.

Di Maria is a star in his own right and he inspired Real Madrid to victory in the Champions League this season. The 26-year old may not steal the limelight for both club and country but there is no doubting his importance to his sides.

One of the quickest players on the ball, Di Maria is a joy to watch while in full flow and his pinpoint deliveries into the box makes the life of his strikers much easier.

If Messi and Aguero are to do well at the World Cup, they will certainly require Di Maria to be at his best and if the Real Madrid star does perform to the level he is capable of, there is every possibility that Argentina might return from Brazil with their 3rd World Cup triumph.
