Despite his advancing age, Tim Cahill remains an integral part of the Australian national team. The midfielder has proven during his spell in the MLS with New York Red Bulls that he has not lost his lethal goalscoring touch and still remains one of the finest headers of the ball.

Cahill made a name for himself with Premier League side Everton and has been crucial to Australia qualifying for three consecutive World Cups since 2006. While the draw has not been kind to the Socceroos, if they are to make it past their group, they will certainly require Cahill to be on top form in Brazil.

Mile Jedinak has been named as captain to lead Australia at the World Cup and the midfielder is arguably the most important member of the Socceroos squad.

The 29-year old enjoyed a fine campaign with Crystal Palace this season, where he helped the Eagles comfortably avoid relegation against all odds, playing an ever present role in the side.

A cool customer in midfield who rarely gives the ball away, Jedinak’s assured presence will surely play a big role when Australia square off against the likes of Spain, Netherlands and Chile.

Another wise head in the Australian national team, Mark Bresciano is still a key component of for the Socceroos despite being 34.

The former Parma and Palermo star is currently in the twilight of his career, where he is spending his final playing days at Qatari club Al-Gharafa, but the midfielder still remains a classy player who can score goals.

Although he may have lost a bit of pace, Bresciano is Australia’s creative hub and the likes of Tim Cahill and Joshua Kennedy will be hoping to feed off of the midfielder’s quality.
