In a hard working and defensively sound Greece side, Konstantinos Mitroglou is the player who adds that bit of flair and cutting edge in front of goal.

The striker is a one of the deadliest finishers the world and it was his five goals during the qualification rounds that helped the Greeks enjoy such a fine run heading into the World Cup.

While his move to Fulham has not gone according to plan, Mitroglou had been in inspired form for Olympiacos prior to his switch to England in January and if the striker is fit in time for the World Cup, he will undoubtedly play a key role in Greece hopes of qualifying to the knock out stages of the competition.

It is a well known fact that Greece base their success on a strong defence and have produced some fine defenders over the years. Now, in Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Greece may have just found the most accomplished central defender to emerge from the nation.

The 25-year old was absolutely vital in Greece’s qualification campaign, where he helped his side keep an amazing 8 clean sheets in 10 matches and his form for his club side Borussia Dortmund this season has reiterated the fact that Papastathopoulos is one of the finest defenders around in world football at the moment.

Strong in the air and good on his feet, Papastathopoulos is an extremely reliable defender and arguably the most important player in Fernando Santos’ Greece side.

Although Orestis Karnezis has made only 6 appearances throughout the course of the current campaign for his club side Granada, the goalkeeper remains an integral part for his national team.

Karnezis started all of Greece’s 10 qualification round matches and managed to keep 8 clean sheets. Admittedly, the 28-year old has been helped by the fact that he is playing behind one of the world’s most reliable backline, Karnezis has held his own and proven that he is a very good goalkeeper.

His lack of playing time at club level will certainly be a concern but the Granada custodian seems the number one choice for Fernando Santos and the Greece manager will certainly be hoping that his goalkeeper can continue his fine form into the World Cup as well.
