AFC Bournemouth boost as Berbatov open to Premier League return

Newly promoted Bournemouth have been handed a further boost in their hopes of signing Dimitar Berbatov

While no one can begrudge Bournemouth of their fantastic achievement of claiming the Championship title last season, it is evident that the Cherries cannot afford to rest on their laurels in an unforgiving division such as the Premier League for the upcoming campaign.

Manager Eddie Howe appreciates the fact that his squad requires strengthening and has already secured the services of the likes of Artur Boruc, Adam Federici, Christian Atsu and Joshua King over the past week or so.

Berbatov was recently released by Monaco

In an attempt to add a bit of flair into his side, it was recently reported that Howe was eyeing a move for a big name player and former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov had been mentioned as a shock target for the Premier League new boys.

Seemingly as a boost in Bournemouth’s chase of Berbatov, the striker was released by Monaco recently and the Cherries are now able to pursue his signature on a free transfer.

There were doubts regarding whether Berbatov would be willing to join Bournemouth but now the 34-year old arriving at the Goldsands Stadium next season is a real possibility after he admitted of his desire of returning to the Premier League.

Berbatov interested in Premier League return

Speaking to reporters, Berbatov said, “It’ll be a pleasure [to return to England]. I spent a long time in England and I keep very good memories.

“Everyone is watching the Premier League, and I’ll be delighted to return. I feel good and I think I still have a lot to give to football.”

Berbatov was one of the stars of the Premier League during his spells with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United and he could well turn out to be an inspirational signing for Bournemouth.
