Aston Villa FC favourites to sign lethal striker

Aston Villa are pondering making a surprise swoop for Bradford City star Nahki Wells. The Bermudan International is one of the top marksmen plying their trade in League One and has caught the eye of a host of Championship sides after some scintillating performances this season.

However, despite strong interest from the Championship, Premier League side Aston Villa have emerged as favourites to sign the striker. The Villans are currently short on options in attack with Czech striker Libor Kozak being ruled out till the end of the season after breaking his leg in training while last season’s star Christian Benteke looking a shadow of himself this year, manager Paul Lambert has been left pondering to make a dip in the transfer market for a new front-man.

Wells is entering the final eighteen months of his contract at the Valley Parade and has made it clear that he wants to be playing in a higher division, rejecting any talks of an extension on his current deal.

Therefore, Bradford could risk losing a substantial transfer fee if Wells enters in the final year of his contract next season and the club may be forced to sell their star man if the right offer comes along this month.

A bid of around £2million has been quoted to prize away Wells from Bradford and the prolific striker could turn out be a bargain for the Villans.

Wells has been in brilliant form for Bradford since joining the club in 2011 from Carlisle United. The striker has a remarkable record of 42 goals in 91 appearances for the club and he played a big part in The Bantams’ promotion to League One last season.

The 23-year old was also key in the club’s dream run in the Capital One where Bradford defeated the likes of Wigan Athletic, Arsenal and Aston Villa on their way to the final of the tournament. Wells has scored 14 goals in 19 appearances this season helping the promoted side to 12th in the League One table.
