Benjamin Angoua set to be pursued by Newcastle United FC

While Newcastle United have done magnificently well in recovering from their terrible start to the season, some cracks are beginning to reappear for the Magpies once again following their consecutive defeats in North London at the hands of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur recently.

Newcastle do look a very good side going forward but seem to be lightweight at the back. The likes of Fabricio Coloccini, Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor certainly provide a lot of experience but apart from the trio – manager Alan Pardew does not have too many options to choose from in the central defensive position.

Therefore, it is believed that Pardew will be looking to reinforce his back line in January and a host of names have since been linked with a move to Tyneside in over the past few weeks.

Now reports emerging out of France claim that Pardew is looking to make a swoop for Guingamp defender Benjamin Angoua. The defender has been impressive in his 10 appearances for Guingamp in the Ligue 1 so far this season and has also done well in the French side’s Europa League campaign.

Such good performances have earned the defender admiring glances from various clubs and it is believed that Newcastle United are also pondering the option of recruiting the 28-year old to strengthen their backline.

Pardew has a great record of acquiring players from the French Ligue 1 and is now hopeful of luring Angoua to St. James’ Park as well.

A major stumbling block to the potential move is the fact that Angoua only joined Guingamp over the summer but with Newcastle set to table an offer in the region of around £4million, the French side could be tempted to cash in on the player whom they bought for free less than six months ago.
