EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool FC set for £5million Nicolas N’Koulou swoop in January

Premier League giants Liverpool are ready to make a move for Marseille defender Nicolas N’Koulou during the January transfer window

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had stated that he would not be looking to make too many signings during the January transfer window but given the Reds’ poor run of results in recent times, the German tactician has decided that strengthening his side will be vital in order to stand a chance of finishing in one of the Champions League positions by the end of the current campaign.

Liverpool are already on the verge of securing the services of Serbian wonderkid Marko Grujic while AC Milan custodian Diego Lopez is also expected to be arriving at Anfield in January.

Due to injuries to the likes of Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren, it is believed that Klopp will now look to bring in a new central defender as well and it can be revealed by sources that Liverpool are now considering a move for Marseille defender Nicolas N’Koulou.

N’Koulou set for Liverpool move

N’Koulou has established himself as one of the most consistent defenders around in Europe over the past few seasons but his long term future at Marseille has been put in doubt due to the fact that he has not signed an extension to his contract which expires at the end of the current campaign.

As a result, it is believed that Marseille are resigned to losing N’Koulou during the January transfer window and Liverpool are now hopeful of taking advantage of the situation.

Given his expiring contract, N’Koulou could be available for as little as £5million and if indeed Liverpool are able to land the 25-year old for the aforementioned price, it would certainly represent a bargain for the Premier League giants.
