Liverpool eyeing a move for German midfield sensation Johannes Geis

Liverpool were expected to be very busy in the transfer market this summer and unsurprisingly, manager Brendan Rodgers has already moved on to secure the services of the likes of James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan so far.

Rodgers will now look to further strengthen his side in the coming weeks and bringing in a new midfielder will rank high on the priority list for the Northern Irishman.

The departure of Steven Gerrard has clearly left a massive void in the Liverpool midfield while even long serving Lucas Leiva is widely expected to depart this summer.

Therefore, one can expect Liverpool to sign a new holding midfielder during the transfer window and sources close to the club have told Winner Sports that the Reds are planning a swoop for German youngster Johannes Geis.

Johannes Geis a midfield target for Liverpool

Geis is currently plying his trade for Mainz and has emerged as one of the finest young midfielders in the Bundesliga over the past few years.

The 21-year old enjoyed a particularly impressive season last year, where he featured in all 34 Bundesliga matches and played an integral role in Mainz’s fine 11th place finish.

Geis’ performances last season has earned admiring glances from a host of top clubs and Rodgers is also said to be a keen admirer of the young midfielder.

Now it can be revealed that Rodgers is looking to ramp up his pursuit for Geis and is set to place a bid in the region of around £7million for the youngster.

Rodgers has had success in the German market recently after bringing in the impressive Emre Can to the club last season and the Northern Irishman will be hopeful that Geis will also prove to be a hit at Anfield.
