EXCLUSIVE: Sunderland AFC to make a swoop for Hugo Rodallega

By Sarad Bade Shrestha  |  January 5, 2015

It has been a strange old season for Sunderland so far. While Gus Poyet’s men have not been poor, they have not shown anything special and as a result, the Black Cats currently find themselves only three points above the relegation zone.

In fact, Sunderland have only been defeated six times so far this season – which is as many as high flying Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and West Ham United.

However, the Black Cats simply cannot seem to win enough matches and the eleven draws that they have managed – has proven to be detrimental to their hopes of making a move up the table.

It is clear for everyone to see that the problem for Sunderland in their inability to turn draws into victories has been their lack of cutting edge in front of goal. The Black Cats have managed to score only 18 goals so far and Poyet has not been shy to slam his side’s profligacy in recent times.

Therefore, it is widely believed that the Uruguayan manager will be looking to bolster his attacking lineup during the January transfer window and it can now be revealed by Winner Sports that the Premier League strugglers are eyeing a swoop for Fulham star Hugo Rodallega.

After a difficult start to the season, Rodallega has found a new lease of life under Kit Symons and has been key to Fulham’s recent revival by scoring 9 goals in 19 appearances in the Championship.

Such form has led to Sunderland closely monitoring Rodallega and the Black Cats are now poised to make a move for the striker in the coming days.

Sunderland have been encouraged by the fact that Rodallega’s contract at Fulham expires at the end of the current campaign and as a result, Fulham could be forced into selling the striker for a cut price in January – so as to avoid losing him for free.

A price of around £2.5-3million has been quoted for Rodallega and the striker’s potential addition will certainly be a huge boost for Sunderland as he is a proven goal scorer who has a lot of experience in the Premier League.
