Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has admitted interest in signing Chris Baird. The defender is currently a free agent after he was released by Fulham at the end of last season. The 31-year-old has already started training with the Hoops and is widely expected to sign a deal with the club soon. It has been believed that he will be offered a 1-year deal with an option of an additional year.
Harry Redknapp has said that Baird’s versatility makes him a very attractive option for Rangers. He said, “He’s a good pro and I like him. He’s a good free transfer. He can play right-back, left-back, centre-half or in midfield. I’ve always liked him.”
Baird started his career at Southampton and made 79 appearances for the Saints before moving on to Fulham. He spent 6 seasons at Craven Cottage making 162 appearances. The defender was released at the end of last of season after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Fulham manager Martin Jol.
It has also been reported that former West Ham United midfielder Gary O’Neil is on the verge of signing for Q.P.R. Speaking about O’Neil, Redknapp said, “I like Gary. I had him at Portsmouth and he’s a good player, good lad, can play in a few positions and knows what he’s doing. They’re good lads who can come into this division and do well.”
Q.P.R have so far completed the singings of Karl Henry, Richard Dunne, Charlie Austin and Danny Simpson in the transfer window.
