Jay Spearing a target for Aston Villa FC

While Aston Villa have surprisingly made a good start to their Premier League campaign so far, many feel that the Villans will still struggle this season due to the lack of quality present overall in their squad.

Burdened by financial constraints because of the uncertainty surround the ownership of the club, Villa manager Paul Lambert has not been able to spend freely this summer and it is widely believed that the Milands’ club’s could end up counting the costs of not reinforcing their squad sufficiently during the transfer window.

That being said, with the recent appointment of new Chief Executive Officer Tom Fox, it is believed that Lambert may be afforded some kind of freedom to spend in the next few days and the Scotsman is said to be moving frantically to land the signings of a couple of new players.

A new striker seems to be on the agenda for Lambert and now it can be revealed that the Villa boss is also looking to reinforce his midfield by signing Bolton Wanderers star Jay Spearing.

With Bolton currently plagued by crippling debts, the Championship side are said to be willing to listen to offers for Spearing despite appointing the midfielder as club captain only this season and it is believed that an offer of around £2million could be enough to tempt the Trotters to part with the 25-year old.

Although not the most high profile of players, Spearing has plenty of experience playing in the Premier League with Liverpool and has been one of the most consistent performers in the Championship for Bolton Wanderers.

As a result, the arrival of Spearing could be a welcome one for Villa and at the quoted price of around £2million, the midfielder looks a low risk signing.

However, Villa could face competition in the race to sign Spearing as fellow Premier League side Queens Park Rangers have also expressed their interest in the 25-year old.
