Leeds United have offered Joel Ekstrand a contract, according to reports

Joel Ekstrand joined Watford from Udinese in the summer of 2013 and played a key role in helping the Hornets earn promotion into the Premier League.

However, the defender was not able to make a single appearance in the top flight after suffering from a cruciate ligament injury and the club recently decided to dispense with his services this summer.

Speaking about his release from Watford, Ekstrand said: “I’m sad to be leaving in this manner, without having played any games for a while. But I hope some of you remember that I gave my all for the club, and I hope to see you again someday.”

Ekstrand close to Leeds move

Despite his unceremonious exit from Vicarage Road though, a number of clubs are interested in signing Ekstrand and recently, claims had been made that Leeds United are currently considering a swoop for the defender.

Now in a further update to the story, it can be revealed that Leeds have tabled a contract offer for Ekstrand and the move coming into fruition remains a big possibility.

Leeds will face competition in the race to sign Ekstrand though as even the duo of Bristol City and Reading are said to be mulling over a contract offer to sign the Swedish star.
