Leicester City FC’s bid for Shaun Maloney rejected

After looking dead and buried, Leicester City have shown in recent times that they still have some life left within them with wonderful results against Hull City, Liverpool and Newcastle United, and despite the odds being stacked against them – the Foxes have proven that they will not go down without a fight.

Bravery alone can only get you so far though and in order to stand a chance of avoiding the drop, it is clear that Leicester City need to reinforce their side over the January transfer window.

Therefore it has not been a surprise to see manager Nigel Pearson moving quickly in an attempt to secure the services of a couple of players and he is said to be on the verge of landing experienced goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer in the coming days.

Pearson is now looking to strengthen his toothless attack as well and it had been claimed that the 51-year old is eyeing a move for Wigan Athletic star Shaun Maloney.

In a further development to the story, reports had emerged stating that Leicester had launched a bid of around £750,000 to tempt Wigan to part with the Scottish winger.

However as a blow to Leicester’s hopes of signing Maloney, Wigan are reported to have rejected the bid from the Foxes and are holding out for a fee in the region of around £1million.

While it seems likely that Leicester will eventually be able to lure Maloney to the King Power Stadium as his contract with Wigan is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, it remains to be seen whether the Foxes will be willing to splash as much as £1million for the 31-year old.
