Luis Enrique has signed a new contract at Barcelona, ending fears he would leave the Nou Camp.

Manchester City had been put on alert at the weekend after he admitted he did not know if he had a future at the club.

But just days after completing a remarkable treble by winning the Champions League, Enrique has signed a new deal keeping him with the club for the next two yyears.

Enrique led Barca to La Liga and Copa del Rey in addition to seeing them his side crowned King of Europe after Saturday’s Champions League victory over Juventus.

Yet hours after winning Europe’s biggest club competition, Enrique stunned the football world by revealing he did not know if he would be at the Nou Camp next season.

That put City on alert – as Winner Sports exclusively revealed – although our source said there was little chance Barcelona would let him go.

However, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed the manager has now signed a new contract. In a ‘state of the presidency’ speech in which he confirmed Enrique’s stay, Bartomeu also said the club intended to make big signings – despite a transfer ban until 2016.

“We have set aside resources to bring in the world’s best players – those who everyone wants to sign,” he said.

World governing body FIFA imposed the ban after Barcelona breached transfer guidelines designed to protect youth players signed from abroad.
