Manchester City face competition in the race to sign Patrick Roberts from French side Paris Saint Germain

It is pretty clear that Manchester City are looking to splash the cash this summer to strengthen their squad following a torrid campaign last term and as a result, a host of top quality players such as Paul Pogba, Kevin De Bruyne and Marco Reus have all been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium over the past few weeks.

While it is all well and good that City are looking to splash astronomical amounts to sign superstars, the Premier League giants will have to be mindful of the fact that they will need to recruit a couple of homegrown talent as well due to the likes of James Milner, Frank Lampard, Micah Richards and Dedryck Boyata having all departed the club this summer.

As a result, City are on the lookout for homegrown talent as well and it was reported that the Premier League giants had planned a swoop for Fulham wonderkid Patrick Roberts.

Roberts now being chased by PSG

There were claims that City had placed a bid of around £5million for Roberts but Fulham immediately rebuffed the offer as they are not willing to let go of their prized asset for anything less than £10million.

City are not prepared to match Fulham’s valuation of Roberts and they could now well end up missing out on the signing as it has emerged that even French giants Paris Saint Germain have entered the race for the teenager.

However with Roberts having only one year remaining on his current deal at Fulham, PSG are looking to play the waiting game and will look to swoop in for the winger at the end of the season for just £300,000 if he does not extend his current contract at Craven Cottage.

Even City are able to adopt a similar strategy but they will be forced to pay a much higher fee as the English side will have to go through a tribunal.
