Norwich City FC planning a double swoop

Despite spending a considerable amount of money in the transfer market over the summer, Norwich City have been very poor this season. The big-name summer arrivals were supposed to push Norwich to the next level but most of them have flattered to deceive and the Canaries are worse off in the Premier League than they were during this time last season.

Relegation is a distinct possibility for Norwich and identifying the fact that his side face a real fight in their hands to preserve their Premier League status, manager Chris Hughton is looking to reinforce the Canaries squad by recruiting a couple of players this month.

Jonas Gutierrez has already arrived at Carrow Road and now it has been reported that Hughton is looking to further bolster his ranks by reuniting with Birmingham City striker Peter Løvenkrands and is preparing a swoop for Blackburn Rovers defender Scott Dann as well.

Scoring goals has been a real problem for Norwich this season. Illustrious names such as Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Gary Hooper and Johan Elmander have all struggled in front of goal so far while Luciano Becchio has hardly got a look-in. With Becchio believed to be on his way out of the club, Hughton is reportedly looking to sign Løvenkrands.

Løvenkrands has made only 1 start for Birmingham this season and is not the most prolific of goalscorers. However, it was Hughton who brought the best out of the striker during their time together at Newcastle United and the manager is said to be looking to sign the 33-year old in the hope that the Dane can contribute a couple of goals to help in his side’s cause.

The striker could be available for free as he is currently surplus to requirements at St. Andrews as well as the fact that his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Scott Dann is another player being linked with a move to Carrow Road. Championship side Blackburn are said to be going through financial difficulties at the moment and are looking to sell some of their top earners.

Dann, who joined Rovers for £6million could be available for as low as £2.5million considering the club’s current financial predicament and Hughton is said to be looking to take advantage of the situation by signing the 26-year old.

Dann has previous experience playing in the Premier League for Birmingham City and then Blackburn Rovers. However, the defender has endured the ignominy of relegation from the Premier League with both clubs in successive seasons. Crystal Palace are also said to be interested in the defender though and Norwich could face a battle with their relegation rivals to secure the signature of Dann.

The defender started his career at Walsall and has played for Coventry City and Birmingham City before moving on to Blackburn Rovers in 2011. Dann was an ever-present for Rovers in the Championship last season and is currently the captain of the side.
