The CIES Football Observatory have valued struggling Premier League side Liverpool higher than German champions Bayern Munich

The monthly CIES Football Observatory report is often a controversial one and it certainly raises many eyebrows due to a couple of surprising results.

This month’s edition was no different and perhaps the most shocking data extracted was the fact that Premier League strugglers Liverpool were valued higher than German champions Bayern Munich.

Liverpool the 5th most valuable team in Europe despite poor season

In the top ten list of the most valuable teams in Europe, Liverpool came in at fifth with a valuation of €381.5million while Bayern Munich were placed sixth at €378.9million.

Given the fact that Liverpool finished a lowly sixth in the Premier League last season while Bayern managed to win the German Bundesliga comfortably as well as reach the semi finals of the Champions League, the reports from the CIES seems ridiculous.

Bayern Munich valued lower than Liverpool

As the teams are valued on the basis of the aggregate values of their players, the presence of Raheem Sterling at €73.7million certainly helped boost Liverpool’s total valuation while Bayern’s most valuable star Mario Götze is priced at only €42.8million.

Nonetheless, the reports do not make for sensible reading and many would disagree with the statement that Liverpool are more valuable than Bayern Munich as a club.
