Southampton monitoring American star Lee Nguyen

It would not be an exaggeration to state that Southampton have been simply brilliant so far this season and they completely deserve their position near the summit of the Premier League table.

Evidently a lot of credit for Southampton’s fine start to the season has to be given to manager Ronald Koeman, who has done a wonderful job in negating the loss of the Saints’ star men by bringing in players who have perhaps been an upgrade.

Therefore no one can question Koeman’s astuteness in the transfer market and it is believed that Southampton hierarchy will be willing to entrust more funds in the hands of the Dutchman when the January transfer reopens.

Southampton have already been linked with the likes of Kevin Kampl and Jesus Corona in recent times and now another name in the form of Lee Nguyen has been touted to make a move to the St. Mary’s Stadium.

Nguyen is most certainly not a well known name to fans in England and such links are certainly a surprise. However, the midfielder, who plies his trade for New England Revolution, has arguably been one of the best players in the MLS over the past few years.

The current campaign has been a fruitful one for Nguyen in particular as the midfielder has managed an impressive 18 goals in just 32 appearances.

As a result, a host of European clubs have registered their interest in the 28-year old and now Southampton have also said to have entered the race in an attempt to secure the services of the midfielder.

Nguyen had a trail at Arsenal earlier on in his career and American international would most certainly be open to a move to Europe during the prime of his career.

It remains to be seen whether the transfer does come into fruition as the strict work permit regulations in England might scupper the potential move but if indeed it does take place, Nguyen could prove to be another good signing for Koeman.
