Tabarez: Liverpool FC had agreed to sell Suarez to Barcelona in November

Possessing prodigious ability and an undying passion for the game, Luis Suarez is a player whom any football fan in the world would undoubtedly want on their respective teams.

A warrior of a player, Suarez’s love for the game is evident whenever he steps out on the football pitch and at his brilliant best – the 27-year old is an absolute joy to watch.

However, Suarez’s remarkable appetite for the game as well as his win at all cost mentality tends to get the better of him and unfortunately, his misdemeanors have occurred on one too many occasions for it to be ignored.

Following his bite on Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, even his club side Liverpool seem to have run out of patience with Suarez and the striker now looks set to be moved on to Barcelona for a reported £63million.

Now in a startling revelation by Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez, it has been suggested that Suarez’s bite on Chiellini could have been pre-meditated by the striker in a bid to force a move to Barcelona.

In a radio interview with Sport 890, Tabarez has revealed that Suarez had told him about Liverpool putting a deal in place with Barcelona over a move involving the striker back in November, only for the Reds to back out a few months later.

Tabarez said, “Luis had told me about the Barcelona interest in November last year a few days before the Jordan match. At that time the talks between Liverpool and Barcelona were very good and an agreement was arranged back then.

“After the amazing season he had Liverpool did not want to sell him understandably and they began to back out of the deal they made with Barcelona in November last year.”

The 67-year old then went on to add that Suarez found out about Liverpool’s decision only after Uruguay’s victory over England last month and revealed that the striker seemed distracted in training during the preparation for the game against Italy, (where he infamously bit Chiellini).

He continued, “Luis got word of this a day after the victory against England. He was a changed man, he got upset and his head was elsewhere. He could barely train with the rest of the team. I had to have him train with a different group from the main squad.”

Suarez had signed a new deal with Liverpool in December last year, where a £75million release clause was added to his contract and while it may sound outlandish, in the wake of Tabarez’s recent comments, one cannot help but think that the striker decided to sink his teeth into Chiellini in order to engineer a move to Barcelona.
