World Cup 2014: Probable Mexico lineup vs Cameroon

Goalkeeper

Ochoa

Miguel Herrera has experimented with his choice of goalkeepers during his tenure as Mexico manager but it seems likely that Guillermo Ochoa will be the man starting between the sticks for El Tri against Cameroon, ahead of the likes of José de Jesús Corona and Alfredo Talavera.

Ochoa has been in fine form for his club side Ajaccio this season and looks a very fine custodian. He will be facing a fine striker in Samuel Eto’o tonight and the 28-year old will certainly have to perform well in order to keep the veteran Cameroonian front man from scoring.

Defence

Mexico defence

Mexico fielded a five man defence during their warm up matches and will probably do so against Cameroon as well. However, just because it is a five man backline does not mean that Mexico will play defensively as the wing backs will be bombing on forward at every available opportunity.

The trio at the heart of the defence will probably consist of Hector Moreno, Franciso Rodriguez and Rafael Marquez while vastly experienced Carlos Salcido also remains an option.

In the full back positions, Miguel Layun and Paul Aguilar look most likely to start but Andres Guardado is also an alternative on the left if he is not deployed further up the pitch.

Midfield

Mexico midfield

Andres Guardado, Luis Montes and Hector Herrera will probably start at the middle of the park for Mexico. While Guardado will be used slightly towards the wings, the responsibility of controlling the midfield will fall on the shoulders of Montes and Herrera.

The likes of Marco Fabian, Carlos Pena and Jose Juan Vazquez will be options for Herrera to choose from ahead of the game but the trio will probably have to do with a place on the bench.

Attack

Mexico attack

Mexico’s attacking lineup certainly looks very potent. Javier Hernandez and Oribe Perlata will probably be the most likely pairing for El Tri tonight but Giovani Dos Santos will also be in strong contention to make a start.

The young and exciting duo of Alan Pulido and Raul Jimenez could also feature in some capacity throughout the match.

(5-3-2)

Mexico (Probable XI): Ochoa; Layun, Moreno, Rodriguez, Marquez, Aguilar; Guardado, Montes, Herrera; Hernandez, Perlata
